Advice about emails impersonating the Met |
||
|
The Cyber Protect team is receiving a high volume of enquiries from members of the public who have received emails or telephone calls claiming to be from the Met.
Fraudulent emails have been reported from addresses including cybercrime@metropolitan.police.gov and cyberprotect@met.police. The public have also received calls from individuals claiming to be police officers and telling them they are under investigation.
Our official Cyber Protect email address is cyberprotect@met.police.uk. The Cyber Protect team would not contact someone to tell them they are under investigation or discuss an ongoing criminal investigation. If you or someone you know has received suspicious contact, the advice is to:
not click links or open attachments not provide personal, financial or account information not make payments or transfer funds stop engaging with the caller or sender verify the contact independently through official police channels
Suspicious phishing emails should be forwarded to report@phishing.gov.uk, and fraud can be reported through Report Fraud.
If you have already responded, shared information or made a payment, please report it immediately and take steps to secure any affected accounts.
